In the architecture of faith, we often mistake "believing" for a passive, emotional state—a soft hope that something might occur. However, the Greek term hegeomai (ἡγέομαι), used in Hebrews 11:11 to describe Sarah’s confidence, reveals a far more rigorous discipline. At its core, this word signifies "to go before" or "to lead the way." It is the mental equivalent of a scout or a commander clearing the path for the rest of the soul to follow: "Through faith also Sara herself received strength to conceive seed, and was delivered of a child when she was past age, because she judged [hegeomai] him faithful who had promised."
When Sarah stood before the impossible reality of her own body, she faced a choice of leadership: which voice would "go before" her mind? She did not succumb to the cold, hard facts of her old age. Instead, she tapped into the supernatural capacity granted to the believer—she exercised the mind of Christ. Because we have been given this divine perspective, it is the mind of Christ that is intended to take the lead in our reasoning. Sarah allowed the truth of God’s nature to "go before" her thoughts, effectively silencing the arguments of her circumstances.
In the economy of God, our influence is not determined by what we possess, but by what we have "reckoned" to be true through the lens of Christ. To hegeomai is to let the mind of Christ take the lead. When we refuse to let our physical realities dictate our trajectory and instead allow the wisdom of Christ to define our path, we are walking in true, godly leadership. A leader who has "judged" God to be faithful has already done the math; they have allowed the mind of Christ to occupy the front lines of their intellect, ensuring that their heart follows a path of confidence rather than a path of doubt.

Heavenly Father, I thank You for the incredible gift of the mind of Christ. Grant me the grace to exercise the discipline of hegeomai—to let the wisdom and perspective of Christ take the lead in my mind. When the circumstances of life attempt to push their way to the front, help me to instead prioritize Your eternal truth. May I be a leader whose thoughts are not dictated by the seen world, but by the unseen reality of Your faithfulness as perceived through the mind of Your Son.
