Before God brings a great destiny to pass, He always takes us through a place of refining. We often look at seasons of isolation, delay, or hardship and wonder why we are stuck. But Scripture shows us through the life of Joseph that these difficult places are actually spiritual refineries.
In the original Hebrew, the word translated as "tried" or "tested" (tsaraph) means to smelt or refine metals like gold and silver in a furnace. It is a process that burns away impurities to leave something pure and strong. Before the time of your fulfillment, you will be taken to a place that feels like a prison. In that hidden place, the Word of God goes to work on your character. It deals with your hidden pride, impatience, and self-reliance—the impurities that could never handle the weight of the promotion God has for you.
When Joseph sat in Pharaoh's prison, every circumstance made his dreams look dead. But the prison wasn't a punishment; it was a purposeful furnace. The heavy chains and the injustice were the heat, and the true test wasn't just whether he would survive, but whether God's word would survive in him. Would he let bitterness destroy the promise, or would he let the process refine him?
If you feel like you are currently sitting in a prison of delay or hardship, do not despair. The most important thing is the purpose this season serves. God is burning away the dross so that when His timeline is fulfilled ("until the time that his word came"), you won't just have a title—you will have the character to sustain it. The very promise being tested in your fire today will become the platform for your promotion tomorrow.

Prayer
Lord, thank You for the seasons of refining. When I am in the furnace and everything feels dry and difficult, help me to remember that You are burning away my impurities. Do not let bitterness take root in my heart. Prepare my character, strengthen my soul, and keep me anchored in Your promises until the day of my promotion arrives. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
